Winter Wood 03:13
Gone the days of winter wood. There are strawberries covered in chocolate melting fed to beasts who are quivering absence of meat. Gone the days of winter wood. Cement to stone all the bricks John had laid; now a monument for those before us who made. Gone the days of winter wood. No Spanish galleon with a treasure worth more than a broken heart seashell was lost off the shore. Gone the days of winter wood. Tattered up patterns on the quilt made of felt occupy the same stitch as a memory held. Gone the days of winter wood. Savor the glass that was dropped by the kiln. Maybe there is still beauty and art in the shards. Maybe i can create it, now would that be so hard? All the icicles melting by the heat by our breath to return to the earth in a river of death.

about

Seattle got hit with snow this week, and while it stresses out some people, I absolutely love it. Yesterday I put on my big puffy coat, multiple pant layers, grabbed my headphones, and started on a long walk enjoying the blanket of snow covering the ground and the trees.

Towards the end of my walk, I found myself listening to an old song I recorded sometime in late 2016 called "Winter Wood". It's a raw, stream-of-consciousness, meditative groove that sounds and feels really beautiful to me. Thumping floor toms, rain sticks, wood blocks, those percussion gourd things, acoustic guitars, mandolin, omnichord, electric piano, and distorted vocals all come together in a slightly chaotic manner that is very calming for me to listen to.

I was very happy to rediscover this song yesterday and decided it was time to release it as is, in its demo form. I think the song works best that way. It's a little raw, I purposefully have some audio clipping in the track, again it just felt right to make the song feel a little unstable, yet calm.

I've also included two instrumental loop jams I recorded awhile back. No story there, just more recordings sitting around collecting digital dust.

Hope you enjoy. Thanks for listening.
